I played with more squeegee-ing, stencil lifting and trying to get a better facial image. This was never intended to be a masterpiece, but so far everyone who's looked at it really likes it so maybe will will end up frame worthy after all. I started with a reference photo of my mother back in the early 1940's. She was never so playful when I knew her. I've wondered who took this photo and some other crazy ones back on that day.</div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-21808394960533563942012-02-08T07:03:00.001-08:002012-02-08T07:10:12.267-08:00It's all about me, of course<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9TuXLczBI5UwBY6bqWE1mdHZ5ZpiTV9ZZ3k5UYkjZ2cztplvpxbq1At6Kn8q824ViaqLJzte8G7BPAFF-rugvES3QMMWYqIGVSp7CNGGB9PV2EMomLEYjt5RpfLm1iIt6RxU5LE-B8l-J/s1600/young+helen+yupo.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 301px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706780888688587890" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9TuXLczBI5UwBY6bqWE1mdHZ5ZpiTV9ZZ3k5UYkjZ2cztplvpxbq1At6Kn8q824ViaqLJzte8G7BPAFF-rugvES3QMMWYqIGVSp7CNGGB9PV2EMomLEYjt5RpfLm1iIt6RxU5LE-B8l-J/s320/young+helen+yupo.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfAQXVGe3fmgNoGJP0NSj3oY9P2SO1xJqPQ4as_rrfgdlqoVil50Rxi4p5lupIMhD8XX8gHmHsVWT_bXJC-TZyQb7NjiAwOJH9FvQm1EO72BSZS_gxlqLqOw5VhjBcezuectglmJYfUWbH/s1600/me+on+yupo.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 237px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706780881770759810" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfAQXVGe3fmgNoGJP0NSj3oY9P2SO1xJqPQ4as_rrfgdlqoVil50Rxi4p5lupIMhD8XX8gHmHsVWT_bXJC-TZyQb7NjiAwOJH9FvQm1EO72BSZS_gxlqLqOw5VhjBcezuectglmJYfUWbH/s320/me+on+yupo.jpg" /></a><br /><br />OK. I've been recovering from the painting blitz that i last posted about and now I'm on to getting inspired about working on Yupo. I've done several things before on Yupo, but just made up how it was supposed to be handled. I just watched<a href="http://www.georgejameswatercolor.com/"> George James</a>' fantastic videos on how he works. It's such a different process. To move the paint around on this surface is like herding cats, but boy, does George have those cats corraled!.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>It's fun and exciting so I attempted another self portrait, and then just played around with his techniques using a photo of my mom from the 40's. Totally just a worksheet, but i think it could have some potential as i go through the process. <br /><br /><div></div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-31714680471413724252012-01-09T06:27:00.000-08:002012-01-09T06:38:04.020-08:00Charity Event Painting Marathon<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibc3bjS4fqfPQgtEPuBUINqjTBhozSAbdUs-7xP4PZlsrbQPHp0gvsFaQSEZaurMfmq7vp2jn4dOZgA5UfNE9x1l7HmaakBQ7A8bP3tB-jXRuugDzJXAJFagrSAwmDprUdbfA0Z28E_-Ax/s1600/2012+opening+night.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; So busy!. Anyway a friend asked if I would like to be one of the 5 featured artists for a fundraiser for the Le Bonheur Group, a volunteer organization to beniefit the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. So a month ago I got the details and they wanted eight paintings to offer for sale so that meant GET BUSY!. So here's the eight that I've submitted. The event is tomorrow night so I guess we'll see if they like me. If they really, really like me. (or maybe not...AAAHHHH!!!????) The good news is that it has gotten me motivated again, my schedule has cleared up and hopefully I'm back on track. </div></div></div></div></div></div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-14309125209529251082011-06-01T06:25:00.001-07:002011-06-01T06:30:04.223-07:00Hmmm....they say there's a resemblence<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTz9YyRMhgtTVHSZ65VPXlfK5abE0D4XMJ3PB1pnLzHo9KF61JTau-aE0pnIhi-my2CttrQ9-DvD_czCECF-173WdX0qdNDPnSONxvvghAH__Rf1tSqe8Sa2w0hLYoL0Kp8XhHe-bQxl4X/s1600/collage+me+4.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 297px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613242182336460946" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTz9YyRMhgtTVHSZ65VPXlfK5abE0D4XMJ3PB1pnLzHo9KF61JTau-aE0pnIhi-my2CttrQ9-DvD_czCECF-173WdX0qdNDPnSONxvvghAH__Rf1tSqe8Sa2w0hLYoL0Kp8XhHe-bQxl4X/s320/collage+me+4.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div>This is still a work in progress, but I think it's coming along. Curiously, both my husband and friend Linda think this looks more like me than the watercolor or acrylic versions. What does that say about me??? Eccentric maybe?? </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>I'm pretty happy about the face, but I need to define the neck/ hand areas. I've pasted it down with repositionable adhesive (basically what holds postit notes on), so I can play with where the pieces are and can lift and layer differently as needed. I can give myself some pretty quirky expressions just by shifting the eyes. Not quite sure how I will permanently adhere them. I don't want the paper to wrinkle with wet glue. Any suggestions?</div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-36959949765217631982011-05-26T08:34:00.001-07:002011-05-26T08:42:19.624-07:00Will the Real Me Please Step Forward<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwlWG56bV8On1e5ddMZpYywl7E4YgVPRN34IOKwQvSrW35lbkl8ZZETWpvs8hTIS-Pp3v261etBSieZno4CH1nKp04aInkBJDXD0Kc757dcZBvGQ2vagSvqrFvThXV4QU-7cZinU49jVrM/s1600/collage+me+5+11.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 263px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5611048969578411122" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwlWG56bV8On1e5ddMZpYywl7E4YgVPRN34IOKwQvSrW35lbkl8ZZETWpvs8hTIS-Pp3v261etBSieZno4CH1nKp04aInkBJDXD0Kc757dcZBvGQ2vagSvqrFvThXV4QU-7cZinU49jVrM/s320/collage+me+5+11.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRBC8EUmTUW6YKwXUIqqUuq_9Pjql-YxgA0Rtee61De3j1owoHCSBUU8bIekAzgFs7qPJOh96fvEJHaFhOtoIU8MGPo5K9CrPnZsiFrH4DfudJWWnYHUeolO610RkR4a_elcIung95u6XT/s1600/collage+me+3+5+11.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 248px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5611048967499643970" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRBC8EUmTUW6YKwXUIqqUuq_9Pjql-YxgA0Rtee61De3j1owoHCSBUU8bIekAzgFs7qPJOh96fvEJHaFhOtoIU8MGPo5K9CrPnZsiFrH4DfudJWWnYHUeolO610RkR4a_elcIung95u6XT/s320/collage+me+3+5+11.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbKFrmvlZx5GoHOoiGQFRCrRgUtMdpKtvNh9FQ3d2UPbBXGGj-L08K06QxZ6luF4ZGZr_ztkCa2PIQg3wzW0FTzYcYApdMWbJK8jVOghqhv-cPYC5XZoh7x90ggu1_C609BcqRnpM2BCaC/s1600/collage+me2+5+11.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 319px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5611048829490383538" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbKFrmvlZx5GoHOoiGQFRCrRgUtMdpKtvNh9FQ3d2UPbBXGGj-L08K06QxZ6luF4ZGZr_ztkCa2PIQg3wzW0FTzYcYApdMWbJK8jVOghqhv-cPYC5XZoh7x90ggu1_C609BcqRnpM2BCaC/s320/collage+me2+5+11.jpg" /></a><br /><br />Inspired the Carol Marine's Daily Paintworks challenges a few weeks ago, I decided to do a series of self-portraits. It is HARDER than you think. For one thing, I've been using a mirror instead of a photo, so everything is backwards when you try to look at me and the paintings side by side. The acrylic painting was my first attempt. The first go around looked rather ghoulish and pasty so i tried to adjust the colors to give me more life, but now it looks overworked and harsh. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>So on to attemp #2. Watercolor and watercolor pencil. I like this one a lot better. I think it's a pretty good likeness with out being too exact. My husband doesn't particularly like it - doesn't like the chin - so every one is a critic (haha)</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>.....so then on to attempt #3 - paper collage. this one isn't glued down yet, so there's a lot of give and take that will happen before it's finished, for one thing I need to move it to a bigger piece of paper than the one I sketched the underlying image on. Anyway, I think this one will be lots of fun to work on !<br /><br /><br /></div><br /><div></div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-77089242929774172282011-03-08T06:46:00.001-08:002011-03-08T06:50:22.082-08:00Door County Conversation X Two<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiARd4XDOaFvymMdcRLHuhyphenhyphenhFRpQW4bHs2RZQlyRyAdr4mHGGelz_MneMlkXDC4rRMbIt_HeYvTg3kPYCxDUuT889q3RWVqdpKjXfOL3FubXP0U9UHn7sWYoVjTk8gbD4w5bTZksKAUVjiD/s1600/door+co+collage.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581720730065999842" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiARd4XDOaFvymMdcRLHuhyphenhyphenhFRpQW4bHs2RZQlyRyAdr4mHGGelz_MneMlkXDC4rRMbIt_HeYvTg3kPYCxDUuT889q3RWVqdpKjXfOL3FubXP0U9UHn7sWYoVjTk8gbD4w5bTZksKAUVjiD/s320/door+co+collage.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMpablhkxZLrVefGv8CBQAxSrjP6HgIinc7BhMTYjJOxJ47Kz0XAh5x0K1fSIYKZIeqBfb5KNFG4eTvCyjmwtRQWIjj_TrEyz7NBFjemxYumHwRvJEPO7HCoq9zAHUENdv0Oow2YFjoFsA/s1600/door+co.+cooler2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 302px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581720728976174914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMpablhkxZLrVefGv8CBQAxSrjP6HgIinc7BhMTYjJOxJ47Kz0XAh5x0K1fSIYKZIeqBfb5KNFG4eTvCyjmwtRQWIjj_TrEyz7NBFjemxYumHwRvJEPO7HCoq9zAHUENdv0Oow2YFjoFsA/s320/door+co.+cooler2.jpg" /></a><br />After looking at the watercolor for a day, I decided that I needed to break up the 3 color right edge so K will have something more to build from to paint the next panel. I'm not sure it's worthy of posting on virtual paintout, but it's getting closer to a successful painting. I really liked the contrast in the personalities of these four women through their dress that the photo captured my imagination, but I'm not sure i did them justice. Hmmm.<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-44719824247683105942011-02-24T07:37:00.000-08:002011-02-24T07:39:35.141-08:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg96EeTNdy6H4XG4bVXijX-4N2aQPTirD4Z8d4e8ZDW6H0C1HZcFUb6GoOEFWaSoGgjbj0MxiEqSMr-mqvEaI9VaJyUkmxinXBQ5KlIOeMY0PS-5x6CCsnbm5n0GPL7wRV187da_0QbnTDg/s1600/zippo.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 253px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577280738031900754" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg96EeTNdy6H4XG4bVXijX-4N2aQPTirD4Z8d4e8ZDW6H0C1HZcFUb6GoOEFWaSoGgjbj0MxiEqSMr-mqvEaI9VaJyUkmxinXBQ5KlIOeMY0PS-5x6CCsnbm5n0GPL7wRV187da_0QbnTDg/s320/zippo.jpg" /></a> And here's the second painting I've been working on this week. It is the Zippo lighter challenge for the Dailypaintworks challenge. The challenge here was to use the reference photo and paint it using only Ultramarine blue, Burnt Sienna and Titanium White. A nice little challenge in color blending, but of course I had to give it a twist...literally. Fun<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-10441616551790263492011-02-24T07:33:00.000-08:002011-02-24T07:37:22.434-08:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6T8l-a7XswJ6XJpC2vl2DOYEdwr5AzNEMl8uH1u89KHTMDlAQaj3l0ala20P182MA8uv3J-Ci3Up4jDOl0hXyq57E3bT8vkODGHLDlc_dQEBG75wISlozbMM7k-FE0RQnvfQJZ6pRreIb/s1600/romania+take+2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 254px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577279842449922274" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6T8l-a7XswJ6XJpC2vl2DOYEdwr5AzNEMl8uH1u89KHTMDlAQaj3l0ala20P182MA8uv3J-Ci3Up4jDOl0hXyq57E3bT8vkODGHLDlc_dQEBG75wISlozbMM7k-FE0RQnvfQJZ6pRreIb/s320/romania+take+2.jpg" /></a> Here's the next phase on this image from Romania Google Streetview. I worked into the background more and defined the gals a little more, but I'm still not happy and don't know where to go from here. The image has the potential to tell a story, but I'm not quite sure how to pull that out. I really want to improve on my figure painting, but they continue to look like "mine" and I'm not happy with that. The deadline for posting this on virtualpaintout is next Monday. We'll see what the weekend brings, but this may just get gessoed over.. Aargh.<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-14333277963411394012011-02-17T06:36:00.001-08:002011-02-17T06:41:25.531-08:00Romania Take 1<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzC6Ppe8NuAdrtDUXStuD_bd0_pgn1fGDL-fItN_QS_8YUwfhLDS52RYTsj4YAnKHBaGyR1hoYubC7rESvMYDhmXIeCezGQ3xIvHkY2dFUhvpXD4SmG1lUZQdQZZ_9Ec-cwkUxpK2doYp2/s1600/romania+take+1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 250px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574667530654309298" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzC6Ppe8NuAdrtDUXStuD_bd0_pgn1fGDL-fItN_QS_8YUwfhLDS52RYTsj4YAnKHBaGyR1hoYubC7rESvMYDhmXIeCezGQ3xIvHkY2dFUhvpXD4SmG1lUZQdQZZ_9Ec-cwkUxpK2doYp2/s320/romania+take+1.jpg" /></a> I found a really interesting street scene on Google maps in Romania to participate in the Virtual Paintout challenge. Here's the first layer, blocking in the figures. I like the flow, but I'm not sure the figures really fit the page. Hmmm. I'll have to play with it. Maybe even to another. Also the colors are pretty much WSIWYG. I think I'll play with that too, to get a more interesting congruent painting. This scene was just so interesting. Four women, dressed from ultra-conservative and old fashion to quite the hip sundress.<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-59447006857529184752011-02-10T11:48:00.000-08:002011-02-10T11:51:47.603-08:00Quatro Campari Tomatoes<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4gYBOwUgDfQ8FXCBwbISfBiGtPSFx3nzAfyihWqcZRWict3tuTdd70fu9MqbwepdjUI7UbhqhXtLOdmTaQoF4spBb_4wtJ9EYFmoYta5tBAic6IPBJMLFB8J8Asj6dOarTkzXD2NyNse/s1600/quatro+campari+tomato.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 319px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572150396548373170" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4gYBOwUgDfQ8FXCBwbISfBiGtPSFx3nzAfyihWqcZRWict3tuTdd70fu9MqbwepdjUI7UbhqhXtLOdmTaQoF4spBb_4wtJ9EYFmoYta5tBAic6IPBJMLFB8J8Asj6dOarTkzXD2NyNse/s320/quatro+campari+tomato.jpg" /></a> Here's what I have so far to submit to the Daily Paintworks challenge. Instead of just trying to better the paint strokes, i tried to change the feel of the painting. It was difficult to do a 10 minute challeng in watercolor considering that you usually need to let the layers dry in between applications so that you don't end up with bleeding and muddy colors. I'm going to try some more and really jump off the deep end next. You'll see what I mean later.<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-88776306621405931562011-02-06T16:55:00.000-08:002011-02-07T01:36:28.246-08:00One more variation<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9Z32bl8JJbMO9v_ST5rx6pJ5LR8D3RuVNVeR5YcmbRDzse1Krw8edLkF4wuAcJaiChhVDtjCHBfpSGNPtZ19GICVMYlOrnS8JbNvHB-24DqJqPqrpkhjSpDfakRQ6WqnbW6_YBV-r7-sh/s1600/imperial+4.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 314px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570745046818835762" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9Z32bl8JJbMO9v_ST5rx6pJ5LR8D3RuVNVeR5YcmbRDzse1Krw8edLkF4wuAcJaiChhVDtjCHBfpSGNPtZ19GICVMYlOrnS8JbNvHB-24DqJqPqrpkhjSpDfakRQ6WqnbW6_YBV-r7-sh/s320/imperial+4.jpg" /></a><br /><div>Here's one more variation on the lines of the Imperial car image. I rotated it 90 degrees and I get the feeling of totem pole images. I think it's a pretty successufl composition and had fun just expanding into abstraction.. I guess i should have been more diligent about keeping a list of exactly what they had and checked in more frequently to see if they had sold. It's been a log time since I posted. It has been one BUSY year, but I think I'm back on track. I've spent the last week cleaning up my studio, reorganizing finished paintings, putting paints, pencils, and papers back in drawers, throwing away lots of paper and printed reference photos that no longer inspire me and just flat out unearthing my drawing table.<br /><br />Today I went to Michael's in search of a small drawing pad so I can start doing some small daily projects that don't require a full blown effort. ..... but they were having a SALE on canvases and strathmore pads so I ended up getting 8 gallery wrapped canvases 8 watercolor pads....Now I have no excuse to get busy. Will post a picture of the "after" studio, since I didn't take a picture of the "before" (not to be seen by anyone not related to me) studio.conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-35961739065862752742010-04-26T07:41:00.001-07:002010-04-26T07:52:29.343-07:00Canary Islands Virtual Paint Out<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP78NSe7a7iz5LX8BdmRMn0n5-yH7D97rFVPgl9YzGq7JhhNQP-S46ms3olBWmzGO3l5QTU99eWLnjfhP3hO2NKNYeJZ_jQePJAyoOFzmG1JGMF6qM2-8_q0fwbtrdxwt055TwMlJjp5T/s1600/canary-mtn.gif"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 219px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464456472072474242" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUP78NSe7a7iz5LX8BdmRMn0n5-yH7D97rFVPgl9YzGq7JhhNQP-S46ms3olBWmzGO3l5QTU99eWLnjfhP3hO2NKNYeJZ_jQePJAyoOFzmG1JGMF6qM2-8_q0fwbtrdxwt055TwMlJjp5T/s320/canary-mtn.gif" /></a><br />Participating in blog challenges has turned out to be a lot of fun. I appreciate finding new blog friends, getting subject inspiration, and in this case finding a whole new way to explore the world. Navigating through the street views on google maps is almost as good as being there....well almost. Bill Guffey's challenge, <a href="http://www.blogger.com/virtualpaintout.blogspot.com">The Virtual Paintout</a>, takes artists around the world to find their own inspiration in a particular geographic location - but not necessarily the exact same view. In the Canary Islands, you have mountains, beaches, towns, people...just about anything that inspires you can be found here. The tool is so cool that you can spin 360 and see what is around you in all directions. You can zoom in, you can move yourself 50 feet down the road and do the same thing....So cool. I chose Carratera San Andre-Taganana. The mountains <div>are just beautiful. I tried to keep the watercolor loose and flowing. </div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-31173596388408173662010-04-02T12:15:00.000-07:002010-04-02T12:19:33.879-07:00Gauge<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_myIsY7TYZ4LX0RuB4Re2Ka5iOqP75zYEAG6gk90LVNuWPwT01-a2EOvfYS0W9JMnL1nH-FDZhZB9urtcGVRzsCUUAa0Lv-CKBJbkucCL0ZAj2rpy8SgkYdgnd8Mfk6TuhJlDSVKgozyK/s1600/gauge-2010.gif"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 317px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5455620973132871202" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_myIsY7TYZ4LX0RuB4Re2Ka5iOqP75zYEAG6gk90LVNuWPwT01-a2EOvfYS0W9JMnL1nH-FDZhZB9urtcGVRzsCUUAa0Lv-CKBJbkucCL0ZAj2rpy8SgkYdgnd8Mfk6TuhJlDSVKgozyK/s320/gauge-2010.gif" /></a> The office where I work is dog friendly. My boss has dogs. Friendly, tail-wagging, college educated, duck-retrieving labs. In the summers they go off to retriever school and earn lots of blue ribbons and in the fall they return just in time to get to go to work retrieving ducks. And in thier off time they come to the office. This is Gauge - the latest in the long line of duck dogs extraordinaire.<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-38572237602597494412010-03-30T06:16:00.000-07:002010-03-30T06:23:00.732-07:00The Power of Red<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3URtAzCACPR3JeRSRsLIsCUe06z7xG_IF9pCGE1EhX-tXFxOl08NKGE53sJb09_QoDTWMv3p5ghm98NyCHldYEkWNoyHyV-rq_0BxOUmVjd7o2nKU9qoUISbc0NEXlB7LZxec6QEqMsUe/s1600/power-of-red.gif"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 319px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454415211113221106" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3URtAzCACPR3JeRSRsLIsCUe06z7xG_IF9pCGE1EhX-tXFxOl08NKGE53sJb09_QoDTWMv3p5ghm98NyCHldYEkWNoyHyV-rq_0BxOUmVjd7o2nKU9qoUISbc0NEXlB7LZxec6QEqMsUe/s320/power-of-red.gif" /></a> One teacher I had talked about the power of red....well here it is! I've had this painting up in my studio for awhile and while I don't think it has the best composition or contrast in values, it certainly has a lot of energy. It is 36x36 so that's a LOT of energy. I've just taken it to the gallery that shows my work so we'll see if anyone else likes red. <br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-7199581570627876122010-03-21T07:25:00.001-07:002010-03-21T07:35:31.098-07:00Collections<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKTgaK7LZBZwtbz8d1taQ0-OQXXOx1NdlEpKei1S1fDNhU2QwfQ-aAx8sfLUdh-JpzqF8pFT6eMhAzWf7Xv1Rzq_HgGfIr8E2qdJwhVzooR9kA4ddtENstdlJ-Lqb02UYdHWjyd-OgMGYH/s1600-h/collection%5B1%5D.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 235px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 235px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451093519980554978" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKTgaK7LZBZwtbz8d1taQ0-OQXXOx1NdlEpKei1S1fDNhU2QwfQ-aAx8sfLUdh-JpzqF8pFT6eMhAzWf7Xv1Rzq_HgGfIr8E2qdJwhVzooR9kA4ddtENstdlJ-Lqb02UYdHWjyd-OgMGYH/s320/collection%5B1%5D.jpg" /></a> Alice Thompson, one of my fellow artsts who follows Different Strokes fromDifferent Folks blog has started an alternate artist challenge called <a href="http://calypsomoonartistmovement.blogspot.com/">Calypso Moon Artist Movement</a>. This challenge was to select 2 objects that represent something we collect. Since I took a pottery class in college, I have been awed by the skill and artistry of potters. It's one of those things that is easier said than done!! So since that time I have collected handmade pottery from around the country. Whenever we are in different cities we visit art fairs, art galleries and art festivals and collect pieces. As the collection has grown we have become more selective about the pieces. First they were just cool, small utilitarian pieces, but as my space has become more limited we have only purchased pieces that relect true artistry and unique style. The larger round piece here, is by Bob Smith and we bought it in Boulder Colorado. it is a huge raku piece. The tea pot was purchased in Nashville Indiana, a small community outside of Bloomington where the streets are lined with art galleries and hand made specialty shops. <br /><br />So, thanks, Alice, for starting this blog and challenge! Look forward to the next one<br /><div></div>conniephttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02540735839230122168noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6283421139804968318.post-89638807595794887832010-03-15T07:06:00.001-07:002010-03-15T07:10:02.017-07:00Robin the Queen<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZGWcKW2qZvRfVWXk368VJ_uqvHqD5Ps6XACzMMeSYUdGx7EpidhSf7Cb-vhXGJGuLkpj2fr1b0vPUCg-JcRXfuD75xOzR29nqZ-w8BNSZuX-gxKaxYYgmE4TazkFlquIep4fnI71Ex0Xc/s1600-h/robin.gif"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 254px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448861881952664946" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZGWcKW2qZvRfVWXk368VJ_uqvHqD5Ps6XACzMMeSYUdGx7EpidhSf7Cb-vhXGJGuLkpj2fr1b0vPUCg-JcRXfuD75xOzR29nqZ-w8BNSZuX-gxKaxYYgmE4TazkFlquIep4fnI71Ex0Xc/s320/robin.gif" /></a><br />My friend, Robin, had her 55th birthday party - no gifts, just show your love and adoration by singing songs and reading poems to her....well, I'm not a composer or wordsmith, so I presented her with her portrait!!.
